The mass student uprising organised by the Namibian National Student Association (NANSO), became one of the main features of the final year of South African Colonial rule in Namibia. It is rarely seen anywhere that a student uprising evokes a national strike in a country, such as happened in Namibia in 1988. But when the students stood up to voice their frustrations with the evils of Apartheid, they were joined by workers and unions countrywide

Much has been said about the anti-colonial struggle conducted by Namibians in exile, which undoubtedly was the main catalyst of the independence that Namibia negotiated and declared in 1990. Ten years later there has been little mention of the sacrifices made inside the borders of Namibia during the years of Apartheid malevolence

It is therefore appropriate to look at the influences exerted from within the country. To this end, the student '88 Boycott will be examined and analysed as to how it was 'a Nation's Protest'. The paper will also explore the events leading to the Boycott, how it was organised and ultimately what the Boycott achieved
