dc.description.abstract The Kaoko belt in NW-Namibia is part of the Pan-African mobile belt system of western Gondwana. It consists of pre-Pan-African basement rocks as well as Pan-African volcano-sedimentary sequences, wich were subjected to greenschist facies to granulite facies metamorphism. It was possible to distinguish different metamorphic zones for metapelites increasing in grade from east to west: garnet zone, staurolite zone, kyanite zone, ky-sill-mu zone, sill-mu zone, sill-ksp zone, g-cd-sill-ksp zone. To reconstruct the P-T conditions experienced by the metapelites during their tectono-metamorphic evolution conventional geothermobarometry as well as phase petrological methods (e. g. P-T pseudosections) were used. Consequently, two different types of metamorphic evolution can be distinguished: a MT-HT/MP Barrovian-type evolution in the eastern and central Kaoko belt and a HT/LP Buchan-type evolution in the western Kaoko belt. The geodynamic significance of this results is discussed en_US
