The special study research report on the potential of Neudamm for game farming

In an attempt to determine the potential of Neudamm for game farming, the following methods were employed: i. e. interviews, physical observations and research. Neudamm is situated 35km east of Windhoek, approximately 2km from the Windhoek - Gobabis tarred road and 10km from the Windhoek International Airport. The farm covers an area of 10 187ha. The farm receives an annual average rainfall of 360mm which is higher than the national annual average of 270mm. The temperature ranges between -7°C minimum and 44°C maximum. The carrying capacity, is estimated to be 15ha per large stock unit and 6ha per small stock unit per year. There is a large diversity of plant and game species. With the conversion of the farm from a cattle ranch to a game ranch, some of the existing infrastructure will become redundant and must be removed. Others must be upgraded or erected. The farm does not have a game proof fence, so the fences of interior camps must be removed and used for a game fence around the perimeter of the ranch. The farm is not situated near a perennial river but is near a busy road. However, it has the potential for game ranching
