A survey on Oshakati community information needs

This study investigated the information needs of the Oshakati town and rural areas and the experience of information needs for people living in rural areas. This paper proposed a study on how Oshakati Public Library could help the community of its own town to solve their information needs. A hundred participants were selected and categorized into five groups of people who met the criteria's of the study. Focused Groups Interviews and questionnaires were used as an instrument to collect data. The interviews included closed and open-ended questions. The narrative description of Oshakati community experience in using the library and how they see it, is presented. The study included four groups: Learners, Students, Two community villages, and Small business entrepreneurs. In discussion section, the researcher compared the findings of the study with what other researchers have found out on the needs of rural population such as survival information, health information, economic and income generation, education information just mention a few. Definition of key words is also presented, because the usefulness of the study is contingent on the clarity of the key words it employed
