This study aims to analyse the sociohistorical aspects of adolescent sexuality and reproductive behaviour in Namibia. Specific objectives are to investigate: (i) historical forces (including religion, labour migration, education) and colonialism that have influenced adolescent sexuality and reproductive behaviour (ASRB), (ii) Gender and generational differences in issues related to adolescent sexual behaviour, (iii) the interactions between the adolescent and aspects of social structures (i. e. family, media, religion, education and legislation) and their impact, (iv) how a hybrid society produces and reproduces multiple and contradictory discourses and their impact on ASRB
Research questions: (i) How have the historical forces (religion, labour migration, colonialism and education influenced ASRB? (ii) How have gender roles influenced the sexual behaviour of adolescent boys and girls? (iii) How does the underlying sociocultural, economic and other development aspects in the country influence ASRB? (iv) In what way do adolescents as actors create their own world and how does this support, compete or conflict the adult's view?
These questions are best addressed through a quantitative approach for supplementary data and qualitative approach for primary data
