dc.description.abstract Abstract provided by author en_US
dc.description.abstract This study aimed at investigating factors that motivate media employees to work and the effects motivation or de-motivation has on employees and the implications on media organisations in Windhoek. The researcher also looked at the possible causes of turnover. The aim of this study however is to find out the importance of motivation, how motivation is enhanced to bring about effectiveness, and the effect motivation has on organisational performance. Theories like the Herzberg two-factor theory, Other emergingtheories(Control and Agency), equity work motivation theory and Maslow's Hierarchy of needs were used to explain what motivates employees and the effects it has on the workers. The study used a quantitative method, 31 although 100 questionnaires were supposed to be used initially but due to limitations it was not possible. The questionnaires were administered to male and female media workers in six media organizations, namely: The Namibian, New Era, MISA, Republikein, The Big Issue and NBC TV. A stratified random sampling method was used, as data was collected from each organisation in order to get various views of motivational levels. After the data collection was done it was analysed manually and interpreted using tables. The study will be of great importance to media organisations that face a problem in motivating their staff, it will enable them to identify those problem areas. The findings of the study showed that media workers in Windhoek are largely motivated by intrinsic factors of motivation (internally generated factors such as achievement, recognition). And their organisations do not pay much attention in making sure their employees are motivated en_US
