The optimum yield of extracting agar from the Red Seaweeds (Gracillaria sp.) is obtained from the non-acid treated agar, while the acid treated seaweed gives an agar with strong gelling properties. The protein content, is very low in the Namibian red algae, with similar 3-6 anhydrogalactose absorbency at 438nm wavelength even if the seaweeds were treated under different treatments
