A comparative study of viewer satisfaction level with television programmes provided by One Africa and NBC in Namibia.

Abstract

Abstract This research study assessed whether television viewers m Namibia are satisfied with programming provided by the two broadcasters, NBC and One Africa television. The research tried to find out what viewing systems are employed and how the two television stations go about the selection of programming. (was viewers satisfaction not part of the aims) The study covered the Hakahana informal settlement in Windhoek, and the Southern Region, Keetmanshoop, in Namibia. The principal methods used to collect data for the study were questionnaires and interviews. A population of I 02 participants was selected. Results indicated that NBC and One Africa viewers are satisfied with the two television stations to a certain extent, but they feel that there is a lot of room for improvement for both the two stations. The study concluded that, in order to satisfy viewers, and to lure more viewers to television stations, it is important that viewer needs and wants are considered. Before airing programs, relevant content research should be done, in order to ensure and maintain a constant fan base. The study recommends that Television stations should also Look at easier ways of communication with their viewers; this would encourage viewers to speak out if they are not pleased with program content.
